Director of Housekeeping

Job Description
Directs and oversees operational needs of the Housekeeping Department. Coordinates the tasks of the housekeeping supervisory staff and employees. Assures that staff is trained in accordance with Lovett School Housekeeping guidelines. Schedules staff to meet the needs of the facility. Manages the Housekeeping budget. Acts as the liaison between Lovett School employees, parents and students and the Housekeeping department.

Reports to: Director of Plant Operations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establish and review standards and work procedures for all Housekeeping staff in accordance with established policies and practices of the school.
• Plan and develop work schedules, hours, areas of work, procedures and job duties to ensure that adequate housekeeping support is provided to all areas of the school.
• Interview, evaluate, and select new hires for approval to the Director of Plant Operations.
• Assess and recommend employee terminations based on appropriate documentation provided to the Director of Plant Operations.
• Orientation, training, and supervision of all Housekeeping staff.
• Regularly inspect and evaluate physical condition of facility; report needed repairs to the appropriate department, and supervise the relocation and storage of all tables, chairs and equipment as well as the relocation of space to improve the sanitation and appearance of the facility.
• Inspect and maintain order in all departmental storage areas and service closets.
• Report unsafe conditions to safety committee.
• Conduct research on ways to improve housekeeping technology, review and recommend any new products and equipment needs.
• Conduct regular staff meetings and communicate with members of other departments to coordinate housekeeping activities.
• Prepare time cards, attendance records, and overtime requests.
• Schedule major project work, assuring that adequate staff and supplies are available to perform said tasks.
• Conduct regular inventory of housekeeping supplies and order same, keeping costs in  line with approved budgetary amounts.
• Responsible for campus recycling and record keeping.
• Prepares and submits all departmental budgets, oversees expenditures in order to maintain budget.
• Maintain inventory, order needed materials and supplies while maintaining budgets, and review and recommend new products and equipment needs.
• Direct all incoming and outgoing parcels, both external and internal. Deliver and track all packages distributed to campus.
• Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements (knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform satisfactorily in the position):
• Clear driving record and license.
• Minimum 5 years management experience and demonstrated progressive growth in housekeeping facility maintenance with working knowledge of all housekeeping procedures.
• Strong work ethic and the initiative for quality and customer service.
• Excellent written and oral communication, listening and empathy, and problem solving (one‐on‐one and group) skills.
• Ability to utilize a participative approach to managing staff, to function appropriately under stress, to organize and prioritize tasks, and to develop
budgets with a complete understanding of facility needs and requirements.
• Excellent stress management skills, administrative and organizational, and follow‐through (with associates and clients) skills required.
• Proficient in computer usage.
