Date/Time: Thursday, February 23, 2012 - 2:30 PM ET
Presenter: Mark Mitchell, VP NAIS, School Information Systems
Description: Contrary to some popular belief, you don't need to know everything about tax forms to make sound financial aid decisions using the information that they can yield. While reviewing tax returns for making good financial aid decisions is a must, becoming a tax expert during the financial aid season is not. In this session, we will review five important items that should command your attention when verifying PFS-reported information using tax forms: taxable income sources, untaxed income, depreciation, assets, and tax allowances. Having a handle on these situations and what to do when you see them will provide a good foundation for your tax document review.
Learning Outcomes:In this session, you will:
- Identify five critical items to verify using the 1040, W2, and other tax forms.
- Learn how SSS data capture features help you locate and verify discrepant information.
- Understand how correcting these items yeild the most accurate EFC for your decision making.
